Glimmers, sporadic and elusive.

This promise fades in, and back out like the tide.

It splashes on her toes, then

Retreats with every doubt.

Stepping terrified into the fray.

She must walk alone, estranged.

Diving in is not an option.

Is it shallow or deep?

Dusk is upon her.

It’s too late to turn back now.

The sun’s reflection

Sinking, but beautiful on the surf.

Respite’s beach far behind.

Each step washes away

Filling in, disappearing

No trail for returning.

Dawn will arrive without consent

Unfamiliar, but promising.

Her feet are submerged, ankles wet.

The journey has begun.

The story line is there.

Playing hide ‘n seek.

Peeking out from time to time.

Courage is teasing relentlessly.

Terrifying thrill grips at her waist,

As she swims into the unknown.

Every direction begs

Which way will she go?

Just as the sun rises and sets without fail,

She knows the destination exists.

When she arrives, she’ll know she’s HOME

And the journey was worth it.
